Willingale v Matching Green Cricket Club Matching Green 1st XI on Sat 16 Jul 2005 at 1:30pm
Matching Green Cricket Club Lost 5 wickets.

Match report MGCC I produced a spirited performance at Willingale (Sat.16 July) narrowly losing by 4 wickets.

With four of the first five MGCC batters under the age of 18 the policy of youth development has proved a massive success with no other local club in the area boasting such a rich array of teenage talent.

Schoolboys Tom Hobbs, Tom Figg, James Ambi and Sea Bass are learning the game every week and already contribute to the team's performance.

On a hot and sunny Saturday, with the infamous rutty 'Gale outfield living up to its reputation, the MG batters struggled early doors to get the scoreboard ticking along at any great speed.

Star batters P. Liversausage and Ginger Meister came and went with the 'youth brigade' before old time baldies Matt Hartnell (18) and S. Hume (51 no) joined for the hundreth time together at the crease. Hartnell wearing blinkers almost running out his partner on the first over running a suicidal single.

Junior (9) looked the part before being 'Mulleted' by a yorker, Mugsy soon came and went serving up a catch to mid-off.

168 at least gave the bowlers a target to defend.

MG duly produced their best 15 overs of the 2005 season so-far. The attack of Bibby and Mullet struck fear into the 'Gale batters and wickets began to fall at both ends.

At 18-4 the match had dramatically swung Matching's way!

Top class ground fielding especially by Livers, Bass and Ambi backed their bowlers aggression and it was a lovely sight to watch perfect cricket being displayed on the dust bowl at Willingale for this opening spell.

Highlight of the day was Matt Hartnells, low stinging one handed slip catch off the v. surprised Mullet.

However the home batters dug in and took every opportunity to eek away at the low target and gradually the game swung back towards the 'gale.

Two further wickets fell before the hosts hit the 170 needed.

Superb display by MGCC with Matt Muggleton displaying the finest wicketkeeping seen in Div 1 this summer.
