Matching Green Cricket Club Matching Green 2nd XI v Roding Valley II on Sat 16 Jul 2005 at 1:30pm
Matching Green Cricket Club Won 76 RUNS

Match report Man of the Match – Nick Scantlebury with 105. The youngest centurion for MGCC in a senior match EVER!!!!
Champagne Moment – Nick’s 100 plus Jack Scantlebury’s first wicket in senior cricket with his first ball!!!!!

On a blistering hot afternoon the Matching players were pleased skipper won the toss and decided to bat first. The early departure of Prowsey brought 15 year old Nick Scantlebury to the crease. A wonderful innings full of delightful cover drives and powerful ground strokes culminated in Nick scoring a quite majestical 100, making Nick the youngest ever centurion at Matching in senior cricket. Nick shared valuable partnerships with Steve Byford (46), Danny Andrews (22) and skipper Martin Figg (44) to ensure an anassailable total of 265 for 6 was reached. Even with the pitch playing extremely well and with the lightening fast outfield Matching always felt they had enough runs to defend with ease.

After another superb tea by Lesley, including chocolate dipped strawberries, most or the Matching players, and a fair few from Roding Valley, expressed a certain reluctance to continue the game, but with 26 points beckoning the assault on the Roding Valley batsman began in earnest. Things started badly for the visitors loosing 2 of their top 3 batsman to the accurate seam bowling of Mark Wilson, within the first 3 overs. Thereafter only S. Lauder with 43 showed any resistance in the top order. So it was left to the Roding Valley colts to show their counterparts how to build an innings. 12 year old C. Briggs (59no) and 10 year old R. Hassan (16no) batted quite brilliantly defying their tender age. Highlight of the Matching bowling was the eight tight overs bowled by Jack Scantlebury (in two 4 over spells). His first ball was good enough to clean bowl the Roding Valley number seven batsman. He finished with 1 wicket for 50 runs from 8 overs. A brilliant start to a budding career at Matching. Mark Wilson also continued his ‘education’ in the lovely game with a well deserved 4 wickets for just 22 runs in his 10 overs.

Despite to efforts of their colts, Roding Valley fell well short of heir target on 189 for 8.

MGCC 2nd XI remain top of Division 6. Important clashes against Buntingford and Farnham remain before we are confident of promotion to Division 5 next year.
