Matching Green 2nd XI
Captain :
Martin Figg
Right Hand Bat and occassional leg spinner. Stylish and strong, when set this opening batsman can make the game look easy. A member of the elite Matching Centurion Club and hardworking operative of the grounds staff. Current 2nd XI Captain.
Vice Captain :
Steve Byford
Ever present opener since records began. Chisled out of granite from 'The Sweeney' days of the 1970's. Young Byford used to wheelspin his way round the Green in his Mark 1 Ford Granada whilst listening to 'Mud' on his 8 track. True Legend of MGCC and will probably get a bench named after him if he's lucky.
Players
Danny Andrews
Hard hitting batsman who only started playing Cricket in 2005. Scored the record for a number 10 batsman in the club when making his 1st XI debut, smashing a more than a run a ball 64 against South Africa.
Harry Andrews
Lee Andrews
Henry Bailes
Alex Barriball
Aspiring new talent. Great things expected.
Andy Barriball
Charlie Bass
Left-Arm "Slinga Malinga" opening bowler for the 1stXI, can be rapid for someone of his age, and will only get quicker. Can hit a fair ball aswell when needed. His iPod can be heard a mile away from The Green, with "Umbrella Ela Ela, Ey Ey" being his famous soundtrack.
Wayne Bellieu-Cruise
Junior Bibby
One of the most committed members of the MGCC 1st XI, always plays with a great deal of passion! Most probably the noisiest fielder in the HECL, with cries of "It's in the air lads" as another six flies into The Chequers off Lordy's bowling. His bowling is sometimes un-playable in overcast conditions when the Bibster gets into full swing, and it wouldnt be the same without a few extended follow-throughs and stares at the batsman.
Never lived up to his potential as Matching Green's Viv Richards.
Graeme Bowerman
Very Ginger. Keen to ensure fun is also had whilst performing well! Mainly an effective, if not elegant batsman, who can bowl when required.
Now unable to claim being the hairiest man at MGCC, he is happy to settle with being the token "ginga" within the ranks. Long time Batchelor Graeme finally shook of the cruel gay jibes when he eventally married his sweetheart Vanessa in 2009.
Ralph Camp
Ever present social member of the friendly XI. A hardworking member who keeps the club out of the High Court.
Tim Camp
Terry Dewhurst
Ben Franks
Ben, and his brother Sam, joined MGCC last season after moving to The Green from Singapore. Living in England for the summer months, he will be looking to break into the 1st XI with his batting and especially 'keeping skills.
Sam Franks
Sam, a new member to the club since the Summer of 2007, bowls well flighted off spinners which have been aided by his cricket development on the dusty spinning tracks of Singapore CC during our winters.
Steve Hobbs
Stanley Hume
Made debut on the Green in 2003 at the age of 6. Took a wicket in his first over and made 5 runs. Hopefully one for the future!
'Mark One' of the Hume male range. Has a lot to prove to be like his old man Steve.
Steve Hume
Steve is one of the few players that was around when the HECL was first formed and has a wealth of experience in scoring runs and taking match winning hat-tricks! Taken over 500 wickets and 5,000 runs for the club. His two eldest sons Stan and Jacob are Skippers for the youth teams and aim to follow there Dad into the senior team over the next 5 years.
James Jackson
Tim Jagger
Simon Jeffery
Simon is a loyal and committed member, who's most impressive "feature" has to be his low bullett arm that can run even the quickest of runners out. With a low swoop down for the ball and in one motion the ball is at the stumps, the batsman is gone. Can hit some hefty blows with the bat once getting his eye in.
Steve Johnson
Chris Leamon
Married the delightful Heather in Feb 2005. Handy slogster and suicidal in the field.
Rob Leamon
club captain and groundsman
Tom Leamon
Tony Little
2004 saw Tony's 50th year playing cricket on the Green.
Awarded a special award at the Dinner Dance.
A real pain in the ass.
Martin Lovatt
Joe Millbourne
Terry Millbourne
Declan O'Carroll
Martin Ormondroyd
Martin, another one of our clubs number crunchers, is a life long MGCC member. Having seen his more than useful left arm pace deteriorate over the last few years, has has tuned his batting to become a solid member of any batting line-up, and holds a few spectacular catches each year!
Sam Parker
One for the future, Sam possesses a deadly throw.
Steve Parker
Ever present 2nd teamer (only surfing in Devon gets the nod over cricket) who is improving year on year with bat and ball.
Fraser Parris
James Parrish
Oliver Phill
Gary Pitman
James Robson
James Roos
Bryan Russell
Pride of Yorkshire, tight in both wallet and bowling.
Ex-Chairman, in the Ken Bates mode, always willing to give advice to the batsmen.
Used to be very useful back in the day - Now taken early retirement and taken to fly fishing in long wellies.
Jed Scanlon
Joe Scanlon
Jack Scantlebury
Nick Scantlebury
Oldest of the "Scants", Nick has the impressive ability to swing the new ball in both directions. His batting can hold its own for the 1st XI aswell, and another good year for both School and Club bodes well for the future. Can always be found in The Chequers chatting up the ladies, or elaborating on his weekly excursions in his tractor.
Jonathan Sellar
John Smith
Matthew Smith
Peter Stiles
Bowls some useful inswingers when on form, however, this is no place for his cricket ability. Pete made his name on The Green after having his head shaved, at 12am by Skipper Spider in the Pavillion, into a perfectly styled mullett. The Legend lives on...
K Suresh
Andrew Taffs
Barney Thorpe
Dennis Udall
A Vale
Peter Weaver
Matching Legend. We are not worthy. MGCC's 1970's equivalent of Barry Sheene. Weaver is truly one of the most talented left-handed batsmen the club has ever produced.
In his pomp, Weave strolled to the crease with frizzy hair, spectacles and a multi-coloured head-band before punishing errant bowling to all parts. Prodicious run-scorer who has notched up over 25+ centuries for the club. Used to be an express bowler earning him the nickname of ' Whispering Death' before age cruelly caught up with him in the late 1980's.
Andy Weight
Mark Wilson
After only first setting foot on a Cricket field during the 2005 season, Mark has made huge strides and is now an integeral member of the 1st XI. His arrow type bowling has seen the end to many a class batsman. Mark considers his batting to be a work in progress...
Josh Winch
Good lad, one for the future. Never stops talking.
