Welcome to Matching Green Cricket Club
We are a friendly village cricket club playing in the very picturesque village of Matching Green in the rural north west of Essex near the Essex/Herts border. The cricket square is in the middle of the Green, the largest designated village green in Essex.
Cricket has been
played on the Green since the 1830s.
Although Clubmark status has now lapsed, we retain our
commitment
to Junior cricket development in the community.
We have two Saturday XIs playing in the Herts & Essex Border League and a Sunday XI playing friendlies. We also play midweek crick
et including the 20 over League Cup, Boardman's Davies Cup and the successful Villager's Cup 6 a side competition. We also participate in the The Cricketer National Village Cup competition.
On the field, in 2023 we won the local cricket treble; Herts & Essex Border League Champions, HEBL League Cup winners and Boardman's Davies Cup winners.
We have a successful Junior section and hold coaching sessions on Friday evenings for boys and girls from 5 years old. Our Under 9 and Under 11 teams play in the local district competitions and our U13 team play friendlies.
During the winter months we field two senior teams and Junior teams in the local indoor league. In 2011 our senior indoor team were overall runners-up in the Essex Indoor Competition.
Off the field we were delighted to finish a fantastic new pavilion in 2013 which really creates a focal point on the village green. Overlooked by the village pub this really is village cricket at its best! Our pavilion host numerous events including, new in 2024, our successful Thursday Club, a place for everyone, whatever age, to come along and enjoy a cup of tea, a slice of cake and a chat with like-minded people. From small beginnings we now have 25 regular attendees.
The club are always looking for new members and volunteers.
