It is with great sadness that we report the passing of
Hugh Scantlebury, peacefully at home, age 86. 

Hugh was a lifelong supporter of all things cricket,
playing in his younger days and an avid spectator in later life.
He particularly enjoyed going to watch Essex,
where he was a life member. 

 Hugh was delighted that his two grandsons,
Nick and Jack, developed their own love of cricket
as colts at MGCC. 

 Our sincere condolences go to
his wife Marion, Richard, Juliet and all the family. 

In 2012, shortly after our new pavilion was finished, Hugh very kindly
offered us some of his cricketing memoirs.

His thoughts will be published in "MGCC – the first 200 Years"
which is currently being written, but I thought today was an
appropriate moment to share his thoughts with members. M
