Leaders Matching Green beat 2nd placed Ilford Catholics

08 Jun 2015

On a nice Sunny day Matching arrived at Ilford to be confronted with a minefield of a wicket . Once again Matching won the toss and given the wicket decided to bowl.

The dangerous Steve Ward was soon out caught at short leg by Dan Sibley off Charile Bass to a rasping bouncer. Jason Green was bowling well from the other end too. Wickets tumbled at regular intervals with only Mitchell (26) putting up any worthy resistance. Paul Dawson mopped up the tail in double quick time and all the Matching bowlers had done their bit bowling with good discipline. Dawson 3-13 , Green 3-47 and Simon Wasley 2-41 ending with the best figures . Ilford Catholics were all out for 118 , but on such a treacherous wicket no score may have been too small.

Matching started their innings tentatively and at one stage were 40-3 , but Jason Green carried his bat throughout the innings for a stunning 51 not out worthy of 100 on any other wicket , an innings of great courage skill and application .Simon Hartnell batted equally well with him and he ended on 29 not out as the two put on an unbroken stand of 80 which was quite remarkable. Matching passed the required total in the 34th over and the leaders had beaten 2nd place , not many sides win at Ilford so a great result.

Mathcing therefore remain top of Division 1 and now have 6 wins in 6 and are at home to Mole Hill Green next Saturday .
