Takeley (League Cup Final) v Matching Green Cricket Club Matching Green 1st XI on Sun 26 Aug 2012 at 2PM
Matching Green Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report After a number of cancellations the Final eventually took place , with BSCC looking a picture thanks to the hard work of Andy Gilder the groundsman.

On a pleasant afternoon Matching won the toss and decided to bowl first. Charlie Bass opened the bowling and looked nervous in the first over bowling a number of wides , mainly due to the strange movement afforded to the pink experimental ball. Jon Taylor who was playing with a bad shoulder injury opened from the other end , he bowled with good pace and accuracy as the two bowlers gained confidence the Takeley batsman found runs really hard to come by .At the end of their spells Takeley were 37 for 3 with Taylor taking 2 for 13 and Bass 1 for 20 off their 4 overs apiece .

Takeleys batting had no real answer with a tight field set they were struggling to find the boundary and only managed 5 boundaries in their entire innings. Simon Hartnell replaced Bass and Jack Scantlebury replaced Jon Taylor. They both bowled tightly as did Paul Dawson when he came on. Hartnells figures were 1 for 21 , Scantlebury 3 for 12 and Dawson 3 for 11. Only Paul Gillard managed double figures reaching 19 before being bowled by Dawson.Takeley were all out for 82 in the final over of their allotted 20.

Matchings innings started cautiously with the main aim to keep wickets in hand and to take time on a tough wicket. Liam Brown dismissed Scantlebury, but Dan Sibley batted superbly, curbing his natural aggressive style to keep his end up, eventually falling for a superb 31. Tom Figg also batted really well for 17.

Takeley stuck to their task well and bowled and fielded well but in truth they had not made enough runs .

Despite a great spell from Tim Way (3-5) at the end of the innings Matching reached their target with 3 and a half overs to spare to win the League Cup for the first time, sparking celebrations that went on in to the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday.
