Molehill Green v Matching Green Cricket Club Matching Green 1st XI on Sat 10 Jul 2004 at 1.30
Matching Green Cricket Club Won 6 wickets
Match report
MGCC proved to be too strong in all departments against Molehill Green on Saturday. Winning the toss, the hosts were told to put their pads on by visiting skipper Graeme Bowerman. Following his double hundred and unbeaten 70 a week later, Molehill opener Nick Price confidently strode to the wicket to face opening in-form paceman David Brown. He was very soon retracing his steps to the pavilion as the 6ft Brown rearranged his stumps in the very first delivery of the match.
Two further quick wickets fell soon after to leave Molehill in a tough situation. Matching's strong bowling line-up restricted the hosts to a very modest 179 - never really enough runs on a such a tight ground. Junior Bibby was particulary impressive in the field and ran out a surprised looking Colin Craig with a direct hit from midwicket. He later came on as third change bowler to snare two valuable wickets, Clarke caught by Tom Figg and Salmon a victim of the death rattle.
MGCC openers Bashford (45) and Bowerman (42) built a tremendous platform in reply - soon racing to 70. Simon Hartnell who decided to join in around 2pm-ish racked another another half century (54) and Hume (27) took the match through to within 6 runs of victory before both fell in quick succession. A dismissive lofted drive over midwicket from Brown (4 no) saw Matching to a more than comfortable victory with 12+ overs still left in the bag.
de following the first ball dismissal of Nick Price.
