Matching Green Cricket Club Matching Green 1st XI v Chesterfords on Sat 31 Jul 2004 at 1.30
Matching Green Cricket Club Won 7 wickets

Match report Matching made short sharp work of bowling out Div 2 strugglers on Saturday for a miserly 96 on Saturday on the 'field of dreams'.

The visitors found David Brown too hot to handle in the first 5 overs as the Matching paceman captured three early wickets - including a screaming delivery to Lewis that rearranged the stumps all over the square. The very next ball Giertien enjoyed a quick roundtrip to the middle as wicketkeeper Eales snaffled a edge from a sharpish delivery from Brown to send the batsman back for an unfortunate Golden Duck.

Tom Hobbs at the other end, plugged away and after being smashed into the small pond, got his name in the book when Mughall holed out to Skipper Hume patrolling at mid-off.

Brown finished his one and only spell with figures of 7-2-17-3 and took a deserved break at fine leg. There was no let-up however with the bowling quality as Micky Bashford was thrown the ball to takeover the bowling stint at the Limes end. He quickly sussed out the batters and after being fetched into the pond bowled superbly to end with figures of 6-2-12-4, including two death rattles and two LBW's.

Aussie Ash Nichol didn't want the Pommies to have all the glory and chipped in with another 2 wickets of his own. Junior Bibby at square leg managed somehow to split a blood vessel in his leg seeing him go off the field twice for atttention - desperately hoping for one of the tasty bar girls from the Chequers to come out and give him some mouth to mouth.

After polishing off the tail and before dining to Elaine Figg's excellent tea there was time for Bibby (21) and Tom Figg (38) to rattle up 47-0 in ten overs.

The rich pudding had little effect on the Matching batters as Ambi (4) and Sam Figg (2 no) with a combined age of less than a quarter of Tony Little's showed a glimpse of Matching 1st XI Year 2010.

Lordy Hartnell (35no) whilst sick from worry with his brother missing in Portugal managed to post another important innings with new bat number 7 for the season.

The match was quickly over with Lordy hitting a six and the only complaints were from the latecomers who had come up to watch a couple of hours of cricket only to go home disappointed.

Matching face a critical match against White Roding on the Green this Saturday which could go a long way in deciding the promotion credential of both clubs.
