Peter Bowerman

July has already been a sad month, but we have to report the passing of another well-known character from our club.

Peter Bowerman, husband of Joan, father to Spider (Graeme), and Grand-father to Martha, sadly passed away peacefully last week after a long illness.

It would be a lie to say that Peter didn’t divided opinion. One thing is assured, he always had the clubs’ interests at heart and nothing pleased him more than to see Spider scoring lots of runs on The Green, apart from (of course) when he was fit and able to do the same himself!

Peter's Chairmanship of the club ensured the club remained on a firm footing. He was instrumental in modernising the club; introducing Junior cricket coaching at MGCC (the legacy of which continues today), overseeing the transition of playing just friendly club cricket on Saturdays to us joining the Herts & Essex Cricket League, extending and maintaining the original pavilion and finding the time to run numerous club tours to Norfolk in the 1990s.

Rest in peace Peter and much love to Joan, Spider, Vanessa and Martha.
