Match report
MGCC II's In Tight Finish v Thorley
A strong Thorley side rolled up to a bright and sunny Matching Green, skippered by their 1st's captain Bob Mills who was nursing a back injury and only 75% fit.
The sociable MGCC II's led by the larger than life figure of Martin Figg galantly went on their merry way and a combination of schoolboy enthusiam for the task ahead and humour somehow set the visitors 179 to chase.
Danny Andrews (23) racked up a P.B with some agricultural offerings from the middle. Byford (23) and Hume (32) also contributed with the bat while the stonewall batting from Wilson' (13) left nothing to chance.
Skipper Figg (41) showed some classy strokes until the wickets ran out the other end. Smoke Salmon sandwiches and a fresh Victoria Sponge refreshed the parts other can't reach.
179 seemed 30-or so runs light, but some tight bowling from S. Parker and spin-king Zac Miller kept the Thorley reply from being anything other than ordinary.
A final 5 over flourish brought the Thorley boys within reach and with 2.2 overs to go, the big 1.8.0. was up on the scoreboard and victory was theirs.
