Matching Green Cricket Club Matching Green 2nd XI v Thorley II on Sat 15 May 2010 at 1:30pm
Matching Green Cricket Club Won by 1 wicket
Match report
Matching Green 2nd XI skipper won his third toss in a row and asked Thorley to bat first and that decision luckily worked as Dave Singh pulled his first ball from Danny Andrew straight to Andy Boram at backward square. Andy never looked like dropping it. Thorley recovered well with Dave Rooney in particular finding some early season form with a hard-hitting 69 before being caught in the deep by 'buckets' Roos off Steve Parker's bowling. Steve Hume's opening spell was very tight and the introduction of Joe Scanlon tightened things up even more as he bowled his 5 overs for just 8 runs. Skipper Figg came on to bowl and with a mixture of full tosses and unplayable deliveries took 4 for 42 in his 9 overs. With some excellent fielding and catching Thorley's total was restricted to 212 when at one time it looked like surpassing 240.
Matching's reply started badly with Jed Scanlon failing for the first time this year being lbw in the fifth over. Obviously his mum's tea had taken its toll! Old timers Figg and Byford set about repairing the damage putting on 46 before Figg tried to cut a straight ball from Peters. This saw the introduction of James Robson. With some typical hard hit fours, most of which had the audience cowering for cover, Robbo went on to hit a fine 77. Steve Byford managed 34 before chipping the ball back to the bowler but by this time Matching were well in control. The introduction of Paul Sydes put a minor spanner in the works as Andy Boram and James Jackson fell cheaply. Nerves started to jangle until the last wicket stand of 12 between Danny Andrews and Joe Scanlon sealed the game with just 3 balls to spare.
A super game of cricket played against like-minded opposition. Well done Thorley. We look forward to the return!
