Matching Green Cricket Club Lost by 13 runs

Match report After winning the toss for the second week running the visitors were asked to bat first on what looked like a damp pitch effected by some overnight rain. The pitch was quite spicy and Rob Jones proved quite a handful, especially after hitting the Stansted opener on the helmet second ball! Runs were hard to come by as Mark Wilson bowled well to support the firery Jones. Spinner Matt Hartnell once again proved difficult to score runs off and took another 3 wickets. Good support bowling from James Roos and Peter Liversidge ensured Stansted were restricted to 160 for 8 in their 45 overs.
In reply Matching Green got off the another bad start as Steve Byford fell second ball. A defiant 14 from the skipper steadied the ship but wickets continued to fall steadily. Some sensible batting again from Steve Hume (45) and some big hitting from Andy Monk (26) and Steve Parker (24) propelled Matching Green towards an unlikely win, but it was not to be as we fell just 13 short of the target.
One win and one defeat leaves the second team mid-table in Division 6 after two weeks.
