Match report A beautiful warm sunny day greeted the teams at Matching. Takeley skipper Mike Sammons won the toss and elected to bat first. The opening salvo of fiery JT partnered with the guile and precision of Willy worked well again for the hosts with Willy removing young opener Pickering in his third over and JT removing fellow opener Sammon through a fine catch at second slip by skipper Figg. With the partnership working well the skipper decided to bowl out the opening pair with JT finishing with a fine 3 for 26 and Willy 2 for 53, unusually expensive for Willy but he'd done his job! With a wealth of bowling options available it was the inform Matt Hartnell to continue the attack along with whipper-snapper Joe Scanlon. Matt was his usual tidy self and took 3 quick wickets for a misely 8 runs in 5 overs and Joe tidied up the Takeley innings by bowling numbers 10 and 11. A hard-hitting 40 from Gillard and 19 not out from Jarvis ensured Takeley passed 100 finishing on 117 all out.
After an exceptional tea from Ann Byford, the stately opening partnership of Captain Figg and Steve Byford got the reply off to a good start putting on 25 for the first wicket. Both openers fell quickly and it was the turn of the younger brigade. Jed Scanlon played a faultless innings finishing on 39 not out and Charlie Bass, lucky to survive after his first scoring shot, went on the strike 33. Steve Parker (12no) partnered the stylish Jed Scanlon as the Takeley score was surpassed with relative ease.
Another good win for Matching Green 2nd XI placing them 2nd in the league.
