Westmill v Matching Green Cricket Club Matching Green 2nd XI on Sat 07 Jun 2008 at 1:30pm
Matching Green Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report MGCC won the important toss and asked the home side, Westmill, to bat first on a damp and unpredictable looking pitch. A steady start from the Westmill opening pair saw a 50 run partnership despite some very economical bowling from openers Danny Andrews and in particular Bryan Russell. Bryan bowled his 10 overs right through and claimed a deserved wicket in his last over. All 10 overs going for a miserly 13 runs! The introduction of Dennis Udall saw the break thorough Matching really needed. Dennis caught and bowled the dangerous Beedell for 33 and cleaned the rest of the top order out taking another 4 wickets in total to increase further his impressive haul for the season. He formed a devastating partnership with a resurgent Steve Parker who bowled an excellent 10 over spell for just 22 runs claiming 2 wickets along the way. Harry Andrews, after an uncertain start, claimed a wicket in his third over removing J. Young (11) who had with P. Thurgill (27no) threatened to take the Westmill score to respectability.
After tea the Matching batsmen had hoped the odd glimmers of sunshine breaking through may have eased the difficult pitch. It didn't prove so initially as the excellent swing partnership of Inskip and Dewage pegged back the Matching openers. Inskip removed makeshift opener Russell for 3 but an excellent partnership between Martin Figg and Martin Lovatt settled the Matching nerves. After seeing off the opening bowlers the two Martins set about the second string attack and as the pitch began to dry batting became marginally easier. The pair put on 94 before Lovatt fell to Riggs for a hard fought 35. Figg fell to Riggs in his next over for 57 but the hard work had been done. Dennis Udall (29no) and Andy Siddall (15no) completed the task with the minimum of fuss and without further loss with 9 overs to spare.
Matching skipper Martin Figg was delighted with the well fought victory. A sound bowling and fielding display followed by some resilient batting was the key. A well fought game played in excellent spirit.
Skipper Figg declared Harry Andrews (11) man of the match for his excellent bowling despite the set back of bowling a number of wides in his first over.
