Matching Green Cricket Club Matching Green 1st XI v Stansted Hall & Elsenham I on Sat 29 Aug 2020 at 1pm
Matching Green Cricket Club Won by 190 runs
Match report
After a lot of midweek rain and the pitch looking damp it was no surprise that Matching Green were asked to bat first after the Stansted Hall skipper won the toss.
The opening partnership of 16 year old William Cutlan-Smyth and skipper Riz Akram put on a solid 65 before both fell when Snelling was introduced to the attack. This brought together Peter Liversidge and 16 year old Olly Hartnell. The combination of hard hitting from Liversidge and the craft of Olly Hartnell saw a wonderful unbeaten third wick partnership of 230. Olly finished on 84 not out and Peter a quick fire 132 not out.
Matching Green's superb total of 302 in 40 overs certainly went against what looked like a tricky pitch.
With the pitch drying and conditions improving Matching were preparing to defend their total. But the calamitous run out of skipper McKurk and the loss of Beaumont to Matt Taylor's fourth ball put Stansted Hall on the back foot and they never really recovered. Only McKinlay with a solid 30 offered the only real resistance.
Matty Taylor and Charlie Bass have bowled well all this short season. Matty took 4 and Charlie 2 wickets with the spin of Simon Hartnell and Dan Sibley adding the final 'nails to the coffin'.
Matching Green remain unbeaten on Saturdays with two more 'league' friendlies and a couple of friendlies remaining this season.
Competition for places remains strong and the emergence of a a great group of youngsters from the Development squad means the club will almost certainly be able to field two XIs next season.
