Horndon on the Hill v Matching Green Cricket Club Matching Green 1st XI on Sun 02 Aug 2020 at 1pm
Matching Green Cricket Club Lost by 27 runs
Match report
Having restricted Hordon on the Hill to less than 200, MGCC were disappointed with their run chase and lost by 27 runs.
Jonny Taylor was the pick of the Matching attack removing 3 of the top four batsmen, and at 45 for 3 Hordon on the Hill were indebted to a hard hitting 78 from P. Bennett to rescue their innings. Some decent lower order partnership ensured Horndon reached 199. Some decent spin bowling from Dan Sibley and Simon Hartnell helped to restrict the score and a sensational catch by Jack Scantlebury also helped.
Matching's reply got off to a steady start but Will C-S fell lbw to a grubber and Sibbo fell quickly trying to accelerate the rate to an absolutely worldy catch at backward point. Jack Scantlebury was joined by Skipper Riz. They put on a magnificent 95 which looked like it was taking the match away from Horndon, but the falling of Riz started a huge collapse. The Hartnell father and son combo never got going. JT and Spider fell quickly after hitting big sixes and the tail fell quickly. Jack Scants carried his bat for a magnificent 59 not out, but the feeling was this was a game we should have won and got away!
Good luck to Hordon on the Hill in the next round.
